Okay so, one interesting "conspiracy" theory that I once heard is that the reason Disney decided to name their adaption for The Snow Queen "Frozen", was so it would affect search engine optimization and take attention away from a different "conspiracy theory".
I'm sure many people already know this, but on the off-chance that you don't: it's a popular urban legend that when Walt Disney died, he had his head cryogenically frozen, which is now being preserved somewhere at Disneyland.
Where does the movie Frozen fit into this? Well, before the release of the movie, searching the phrase "Disney frozen" would bring up a ton of pages relating to the whole frozen head thing. Supposedly, the higherups at Disney didn't like that, so they named their new movie "frozen" to help muddy the water. Now when you search "Disney frozen", most of the results are related to the movie.
Obviouslly, all of that is complete and utter nonsense. Disney's head isn't frozen, and while the company definitely has the resources to do so, I doubt they'd spend years making a whole movie just to mess with search engines.
That said, the other day, something similar happened to me, and the idea of these two things being explained with similar theories crossed my mind for a split second. I highly doubt that either of them is true, but hey, it's still kinda amusing, so I'll share it anyway.
Those who watched a lot of let's-play videos in the late 2000s might remember this game:
The game's actual title is "Syobon Action", but the vast majority of English-speaking let's-players just called it "Cat Mario".
I can't exactly remember what I was doing, but I was randomly reminded of the game and went on to google (er... DuckDuckGo?) "Cat Mario". While all the links lead to pages talking about Syobon Action, all the image results were pictures of Mario with his cat powerup from Super Mario 3D World.
This confused me for a split second before I remembered that DuckDuckGo probably doesn't know the difference between "Mario, the character, as a cat" vs "Super Mario Bros, the game, with a cat". As soon as I realized that, I remembered the whole "Disney frozen" thing. A small part of me wondered if this was a similar situation. After all, Syobon Action came out 5 years before Super Mario 3D World, and Nintendo is infamous for how it treats fan games based on their properties. Maybe the Higherups at Nintendo didn't like that "cat Mario" was leading to a fan game or something?
I highly doubt this is actually true, though. Even if it was, they must've done a really shitty job, because the first four link results for "cat Mario" still lead to sites that let you play Syobon Action.
This whole entry is just for shits and giggles. I don't actually think Nintendo or Disney are going out of their way to do any of this. It's just an interesting observation I felt like sharing.
Has anything like this ever happened to you? I don't know why I'm asking, since I haven't installed a comment section yet. But hey, if you want to email me, or comment on my Neocities profile, go ahead!
