Since Deltarune is only two chapters in so far, there are still a lot of things that players don’t fully understand. Many fans have taken it upon themself to fill those gaps with their own theories.

This page will be going over some of the more popular/interesting ones and my opinions on them. Please note that I did not come up with these, I'm just talking about them. Credit to the original theorists will be given if I can find it.

Tea Theory

In chapter two, there’s an Addison in Cyber City who sells different teas based on the main characters. Each tea heals a different amount of HP, and triggers different dialog depending on the character you give it to. The tea theory is the theory that the amount of HP that’s restored is based on the character's relationship with each other. For example:

  • Noelle heals a whopping 400 HP when drinking the Susie tea because she has a crush on Susie.
  • Kris and Susie are good friends, so they heal 120 HP from each other's teas.
  • Ralsei barely knows Noelle, so Ralsei heals just 50 HP when he drinks her tea.
  • If a character drinks their own tea, they’ll only heal 10 HP. Noelle and Ralsei even comment on how their tea is “just water”.

This theory is simple but effective. It's a super creative way to build on the characters and their relationships while still working within the tropes of being an RPG. I also think it's a nice "beginner" sort of theory because of how self-contained it is. You don't have to play Undertale or read up on other fan theories to understand it.

On a more personal note, I also find it very cute that Susie gains a lot of HP from all of the other character's teas. She's just so happy to have friends! It warms my heart! Kris gaining a lot of HP from Susie's tea is also really nice. We don't get to see a lot of Kris's true personality much because they're constantly controlled by us, so it's very sweet to see that they reciprocate Susie's feelings.

Speaking of Kris's opinions on the other party members, that's a good segway to the next theory I want to talk about...

Kris and Ralsei's “Friendship”

Out of all the main character's dynamics, Kris and Ralseis seem to be the most mysterious. Kris is taken over by the player for the majority of the game, and most of Ralsei's backstory is still unknown. To make things even more muddled, it's been implied before that Ralsei is aware of the player, and sometimes when we think he's talking to Kris, he's actually talking to us.

On the rare occasion that they do interact with each other in ways that aren't controlled by the player, things are very cryptic. In both chapters 1 and 2, Ralsei tries to get the player to view Susie's cutscene so he can talk to Kris alone. What he talks about when the player's away and how Kris reacts to the conversation is still unknown.

Something that popped out to a lot of fans when chapter 2 was released, was how, of the main three characters, all of them heal each 120 HP from each others teas, except for Kris drinking Ralsei's tea, which only heals 60 HP. As talked about in the previous section, tea heals the party member based on their relationship with that tea's namesake.
